After many years working as a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist in the Irish health service, I decided to leave and open a private practice in my hometown.  My intention was, and still is,  to provide accessible mental health services to young people and adults. I had no idea who would turn up or whether my referrals would be mainly for children or adults. I was very surprised to find that most of my referrals were for young people particularly between the ages of 12 and 20. I find my work with this group of vibrant and often troubled young people to be challenging, stimulating and rewarding all at the same time.

This Blog is an attempt to widen the net and reach more young people, and those who care for them, than the few that are able to make it to the confines of my office. I will address some of the common topics/problems that present at my clinic. The topics I intend to cover include; the tasks of adolescence, parents, loneliness, low mood and depression, panic attacks, anxiety and self image, social networks the pluses and minuses, the power of dreams, sexual identity and probably many more!

I hope you will find it helpful and informative and maybe even fun at times, and please feel free to share your thoughts, feelings and suggestions on the various topics as they arise.
